The Unwavering Faithfulness of God

“When I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land I promised on oath to their ancestors, and when they eat their fill and thrive, they will turn to other gods and worship them, rejecting me and breaking my covenant.  And when many disasters and calamities come on them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do, even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath(Deut. 31:20-21).”

God is truly faithful. He already knew that once the people of Israel enjoyed the abundance of Canaan, they would soon forget Him and turn to follow foreign gods. Even though He saw clearly where their hearts would stray, God led them into the Promised Land. This is a faithfulness that defies all human logic. No one could have blamed God if He had withheld the land from those He knew were destined to betray Him. Yet, ‘nevertheless,’ He kept the promise He had made. He proved that His Word does not change despite human betrayal; not a single stroke or dot of it falls to the ground without being fulfilled.

This faithful God is my God. Looking back at the moments of my life, I see how meticulously and faithfully He has guided me. He was there not only when I called out to Him fervently but also when I remained silent, crushed by my circumstances. He never left me in any storm. Even in those moments when I forgot God and fell into despair, He never let go of me. Even when my own faithfulness wavered, His faithfulness toward me never shook, not even for a moment.

That same faithful God is with me at this very moment. Even if a thick mist covers the road ahead, and even though He knows I might stumble again, I take steps of faith today because of His unwavering trust in me. I have God, my unchanging Rock. The fact that my life is guaranteed not by who I am, but by who He is, gives me the greatest courage to live out this day.

Therefore, today, I resolve to live a life of praise to the faithful Lord who holds me fast. As I come before His throne and seek His face, my soul will enjoy true rest that the world cannot give. I earnestly pray that the confessions of my lips and the steps of my life will become instruments of praise that reveal only my faithful Lord God.
