Tassels on the Hem of My Life

“Make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear(Deut. 22:12).”

As I read through the various regulations in Deuteronomy 22, I am struck by the incredibly meticulous touch of God. It is amazing that the vast Creator of the entire universe guides the minute details of our humble lives with such precision.

Yet, as humans, we are prone to forget. Even though we hear and know His Word, we often lose sight of it amidst the noise of life. Knowing our frailty, God instructed, “Make tassels on the four corners of your cloak.”

Whenever we put on our clothes or walk along the path, the swaying of those tassels serves as a constant reminder to gather our wandering hearts back to His Word. How warm is His grace, providing a way for us not to forget.

What, then, would it mean for me to attach those ‘tassels of remembrance’ to the cloak of my life today? How can I remember His Word and live in obedience throughout a busy day?

Today, I will begin the ‘holy attempt’ of meditating on and murmuring His Word in the gaps of my schedule. While driving, working, or walking, I will bring His Word from my mind to my lips. By leaving traces of His Word wherever my eyes and senses reach, I earnestly hope to become a person of active faith one who doesn’t just remember, but moves forward into the place of obedience.
