Judges 1:22-36
In today’s passage, Israel fails to fully carry out God’s command to drive out the Canaanites. Their reason for allowing them to remain was clear: by subjecting them to forced labor, they sought economic gain and personal convenience. What appeared to be coexistence was, in truth, a “calculated disobedience” where they prioritized their own comfort and profit over the Word of God.
This same pattern repeats in our lives today. We often subtly push aside God’s will for the sake of our own benefit or immediate convenience. When the voice of rationalization—saying “This is more efficient” or “This much is fine”—becomes louder than God’s solemn command, we follow in the exact footsteps of Israel’s error.
This is why I must remain ever-watchful. I must constantly check where my priorities lie and whether I am “selectively” obeying God’s Word for my own advantage. Faith is not a tool for my personal comfort; it is a process of surrender, acknowledging God as the true Master of my life.
Today, I decide to place God’s will above my own ease and gain. Even if it feels inconvenient or lacks immediate profit, I take a step of faith, believing that responding fully to God’s Word is the most secure and blessed path.
