“You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you(Deut. 25:15).”
Today’s passage commands us to keep honest and just weights. While it appears to speak of integrity in business, this word reaches deeper into our daily lives and relationships.
Everyone carries their own internal scale. However, we often use a “biased scale” that shifts depending on whether we are judging ourselves or others. We might be endlessly lenient toward our own faults while holding others to a strict standard—or perhaps the reverse. Either way, it is not a just weight; it is a broken scale.
We might deceive others, but we can hide nothing from God, who perceives even the slightest tilt of our hearts. I realized that the secret to enjoying God’s grace in the place He has called me is not found in great achievements. Instead, it lies in a life of integrity and humility, keeping an “honest scale” even where no one is watching.
The only true standard for a just scale is the Word of God. Today, I pray that the scale of my heart stands firm on the righteous foundation of His Word.
