“Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you from there. That is why I command you to do this(Deut. 24:18).”
The fundamental reason we do good is that the Lord has already redeemed us from the slavery of sin. Remembering God’s love—the love that rescued us from Egypt—must be the starting point of every good deed.
However, there are times when I engage in missions or outreach without keeping that gratitude and love in mind. Sometimes I obey simply because the Bible tells me to preach the gospel or to help the poor and marginalized. But that is missing the point. The real “why” behind our service and mission is that the Lord saved me freely, by His grace alone.
When I act while remembering the God who saved me, my testimony of meeting Him becomes a powerful tool. It is only right to move not out of mere obligation, but as one who is deeply indebted to grace.
I must remember daily the love, grace, and mercy that saved me. Just as the Lord gave to me freely, I desire to be someone who serves my neighbors in the same way. I pray that the image of God and the reflection of Jesus Christ will be revealed through my life.
