Love Hidden Behind the Command to Purge

“You must purge the evil from among you(Deut. 22:21-22)”

Today’s passage speaks strictly about sexual sins within the community of Israel the most private and hidden sins of humanity. God commands His people to “purge the evil from among you,” even the most secret ones. The reason is simple: God is holy. The scripture “Be holy, because I am holy (Leviticus 11:45) naturally echoes in my heart.

Reflecting on this, I realize that within our inner selves, there are hidden sinful natures that only God and I know, coiled deep within. God desires for us to remove these traces of darkness, not to punish us, but because we are His precious people and children.

Yet, we constantly stumble before these frailties. We strive to live a sanctified life based on the Word, but we often find ourselves fallen once again. When the guilt of failing to “purge the evil” weighs us down, today’s meditation brings a surprising realization: God never condemns us.

Knowing us better than we know ourselves, He empathizes with our weakness and extends His grace so we can stand again. Although we may fall frequently at first, as we hold onto His hand of love, the frequency of our stumbling will gradually decrease. Eventually, as we enter our true home, we will see ourselves fully transformed into His image.

Even now, I feel grateful for the Father’s grace as He whispers, “It’s okay. I will be your strength. You can do it. I will lift you up.” Today, I choose to remain in His embrace, meditating on the grace that heals and restores me.
