“When the Lord your God has destroyed the nations whose land he is giving you, and when you have driven them out and settled in their towns and houses, then set aside for yourselves three cities in the central part of the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess.Build roads to them and divide into three parts the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, so that anyone who has killed a person may flee there(Dt. 19:1-3).”
Today’s passage begins with the declaration, “The Lord your God.” The reason Israel was special was not because of their own merit, but because they held the Creator as their own God. This intimate relationship naturally brought the responsibility to fully obey His Word.
Through the system of the ‘City of Refuge,’ God demonstrates both His justice and His mercy. And that same God has become “my Lord God” today. He saved me through the eternal refuge of Jesus Christ and made me His own through healing and restoration. Now, my mission is clear: to “build a road” that reveals His character in the place He has assigned to me. People will run toward Jesus Christ, our Refuge, through the path I pave.
Ultimately, depending on what kind of path I build in my daily life, someone may find their way to the refuge of Christ, or they may lose their way. This is a solemn responsibility and a calling given to my life. I desire for my life to be an honest path that fully reveals the character of Jesus Christ, rather than just a channel for conveying knowledge. I want to live a life that manifests the Word from within, not just one with an appearance of godliness.
Today, I remember “the Lord my God.” I only hope that my small acts of kindness, honest labor, and sincere confessions become a precious road for someone to reach the love of God.
