“Because you did not serve the Lord your God joyfully and gladly in the time of prosperity…(Deut. 28:47)”
God desires us to serve Him with joy and gladness even in times of abundance. Yet today, I take my prayer a step further. Even if I do not prosper, and even if my hands are not full, I still long to be a source of joy to my God.
I pray that my peace and joy will not be swayed by visible circumstances. Instead of a life that is thankful only when things are good and discouraged when they are hard, I want to be someone who serves God with delight regardless of my environment. This is because, as His child, I desire to dwell always in deep intimacy with my Father.
Yet, I confess that my will is often fragile. My heart shakes even at small waves, and in the face of harsh environments, I sometimes lose my joy in the Lord. I realize that I am a being in desperate need of God’s help.
Lord, please be my strength so that I do not stumble over my circumstances. Fix my gaze on You rather than on my conditions, so that every day of my life may become a fragrant offering of worship to You.
