“After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the Lord, Who of us is to go up first to fight against the Canaanites?(Judg. 1:1)“
The great commander Joshua had died. At the moment when the leader who had spearheaded the conquest of Canaan vanished, the people could have easily succumbed to fear. Instead of wavering, however, they turned to God with a question: who should go up first to begin the battle? The Israelites knew that their true leader was not the visible Joshua, but the invisible God alone. Because of this, they were able to boldly prepare for their next step even in the absence of their human leader.
In the world we live in today, the essential and the non-essential are chaotically intertwined. We often center our lives on non-essential things money, fame, visible achievements, or the people we rely on. Yet, the more we lean on the non-essential, the greater the fear becomes when those things disappear.
Only when we rely solely on God, the true Essence, can we take steps of faith with boldness in any situation. Even when the mist obscures the path ahead, the God who answers our questions remains in His place. Today, I choose to ask and seek the heart of God the eternal Essence rather than the swaying non-essentials. I will take my steps according to His voice and live a life of victory.
