“Accept this atonement for your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, Lord, and do not hold your people guilty of the blood of an innocent person. Then the bloodshed will be atoned for and you will have purged from yourselves the guilt of shedding innocent blood, since you have done what is right in the eyes of the Lord(Dt. 21:8-9)”.
Life brings unexpected storms: illness, financial hardship, and the complexities of human relationships. Among these, relationships seem the most difficult to navigate. When I encounter friction due to a lack of understanding or face worldly ways where people are used for gain, my heart feels weighed down and connections begin to fray.
Today’s passage illustrates various human conflicts unsolved murders, relationships with captives of war, and disputes within families. In the midst of these tangled threads, the one principle a child of God must hold onto is doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord.
But what is right in His eyes? Ultimately, it begins with deeply knowing the Father’s heart. It is only when we resemble His character and remain where He remains that we can choose the path of love.
Thus, today I choose to lay down my own rational judgments and narrow perspectives when facing others. Whether it is someone I meet for a long conversation or a stranger I pass by, I want to ask: “Father, what is Your heart for this person?” I want to be someone who embraces His heart first, remembering the mercy He has for them beyond what meets my eyes.
I earnestly pray that the Father’s warm heart will be poured over my dry and weary eyes today.
