The Time of Waiting, Walking by Remembrance

“Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past. Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you(Deut. 32:7).”

God’s love remains unchanged yesterday, today, and forever. In the past, in the present, and in the future I have yet to see, God always cares for me, feeds me, and guides me with His unwavering love. Just as He fed the Israelites in the parched wilderness and led them to the Promised Land, and just as He met Jacob at Bethel and took responsibility for his life to mold him into a patriarch of faith, God is working in the exact same way in the midst of my life right now.

Yet, as humans, we are so fragile. When things don’t go as planned or when the waiting grows long, we often try to become our own masters and turn away from God. Knowing our weakness, God encourages us through the Song of Moses: “Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past. Ask your father and your elders.” He tells me to remember how faithfully He has guided my life, to meditate on the footsteps of the ancestors of faith recorded in Scripture, and to ask and seek God the Father through prayer. In doing so, the Lord speaks to us once again and aligns our direction so that we do not turn to the left or the right.

For me, as I wait for the next step, remembering God is more important than anything else. Even if the season of waiting feels prolonged, it is not wasted time; it is a time to engrave God’s faithfulness upon my heart. When I endure today by trusting the God of the past, I can walk in step with Him without running ahead. I believe that by walking hand-in-hand with the Lord, I will eventually reach the Promised Land He has prepared for me.
